young man talks to girlfriend's father

God Will Provide

When Joan brought her fiancé, Jim, to her parent’s home to meet them for the first time, her father invited the young man into the den to find out more about the young man.

“What are your plans?” he asked Jim.

“I’m a Biblical scholar,” Jim replied.

“Well, that’s admirable,” Joan’s dad replied.

“But what will you do to provide a house for my daughter?”

“I will study the Bible, and God will surely provide for us,” Jim explained.

“And how will you get her a exquisite engagement ring?”

“I will study hard, and God will provide for us.”

“And children?” asked the father. “How will you support children?”

“Don’t worry, sir, God will provide,” replied the fiancé.

The conversation continued in much the same way.

After Jim and Joan departed, Joan’s mom asked what he found out.

The father answered, “Well, he has no job and no plans, but the good news is that he thinks I’m God. “

How would a judge rule?

As a judge basing my decision solely on the information presented in the discussion I will give my verdict on the following factors.

While Jim’s faith and reliance on God are commendable, his answers raise significant concerns regarding his suitability as a husband.

Jim’s responses indicated a lack of concrete plans and a heavy reliance on divine intervention to provide for his future family.

Without a job or clear plans for supporting a household and children, it may be difficult for him to fulfill the responsibilities of a husband.

In light of the limited information available, I am unable to determine Jim’s potential for growth or adaptation.

However, considering the importance of financial stability and practicality in a marriage, I must rule that Jim’s current responses do not demonstrate a suitable foundation for a successful and sustainable partnership.

Therefore, my verdict is that Jim’s current statements raise serious doubts about his suitability as a husband in this particular context.

Tough luck Jim.
